Shabby Chic Gift Basket...

Hi!  So....((blush)), it took me a little longer to get back here to post this...sorry about that!!  Things are pretty busy around here...calving is in full swing and there are new calves EVERYWHERE!!  :-)  My kids have been anxiously awaiting a "Norman" calf (we call all the calves that we bottle feed Norman LOL!), and today my DH came home and said that there are two calves that need to be bottle fed...so YAY, no fighting over who gets to feed them (my two older ones always seemed to argue over who's turn it is to feed the calf)!  :-)  Anyway, that's just a little chatter about what's been keeping us so busy lately...

Several weeks ago, I picked up a basket (I have completely forgotten where I got it...sorry) that was just begging to be filled with cards!  :-)  So....here is my "Shabby Chic" style gift card set (all stamps are from Our Daily Bread Design's Anniversary Scripture Collection 1 & 2).

 

 

 

 

 

I really enjoyed making these cards...they are just my style!!  I *almost* don't want to give them away!  Heehehee!  Oh, I haven't forgotten about the Recipe Box tutorial!  I have it all finished...just need to edit the photos and type up the post.  I will wait until after Easter though...so look for it Monday or Tuesday!  :-)  Hugs, Laurie

It’s a Celebration!!  Yes, you may be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, but I am also celebrating the One-year Anniversary at Our Daily Bread designs!

Speaking of scriptures, today is the release of two new scripture sets - Scripture Collection 1 & 2.  Each of the Design Team members chose a verse that is special to them and Kelley made them into special anniversary sets that are available for purchase today!

 

  I chose Isaiah 41:10 (Scripture Collection 1) to contribute to this special anniversary set...for many reasons.  This is my daughter Alison's favorite verse, and it has comforted her so many times during her illness.  In fact, she has even reminded me of this verse...and it's message...when I was worried and afraid!  This verse reminds me not only of God's hand on our lives, but of my daughter's ever increasing faith!

When I first received my set, I knew right away that I wanted to make something special with it!  I decided to create a frame and a box...which will both be displayed in my stamping room.

     

I chose this striking Scenic Route (Sonoma Collection) patterned paper as the base of both projects.  I ADORE these colors together!  I tell ya, I would decorate my WHOLE house like this if my husband would let me!!  LOL!  (He says that there is just so many red flowers that a cowboy can take... :-)

I have to say...that I in real life the reds are much deeper and richer.  I tried and tried to get better photos, but my camera must not like these shades of red!  So...imagine this with a deep shade of red...

**Note:  It seems that I am "calendar challenged"!  LOL!  I posted this yesterday, when in fact this is for today!  So sorry about that! 

Happy Sunday!  Today, I have a quick project to share with you.  I've decided that not only do I need to reorganize my stamp room...but I need to "beautify" it!!  I normally subscribe to the functional over pretty school of thought...at least when it comes to my stamp area.  Lately, however, I have been thinking that I need both functional and pretty!  So, over the next few weeks I'm going to be making some decorations for my stamp area. 

I chose to create a wall hanging using some new K & Co. paper (Que Sera Sera Collection).  The image (Our Daily Bread Design's Peace on Earth) is embossed onto watercolor paper and water colored.  I added some Frosted Lace Stickles to the lamb...I love how it added just a hint of sparkle but not too much.

Sketch Time!

Happy Saturday!!  I have a quick post for you today... 

Today is my last week to host the Our Creative Corner challenges, and I thought a sketch would be a fun way to end the month!  You can see the sketch HERE.

I used the new You Are the Potter set from Our Daily Bread Designs combined with some pretty papers from S.E.I. (you can't see from the photo, but the papers have a subtle sheen to them).

 

If you think there is something different about the vellum I used, you're right!  I really wish you could all see this in real life, because then you could see the gorgeous pattern this vellum has!

Spring is in the Air...

Well, not here exactly...but somewhere I'm sure it is!!  LOL!  Spring is a long way off for us, but that actually makes me want to surround myself with beautiful Spring colors even more!  :-)  I have a couple of projects to share with you today...both of them very Spring-y!

The first project is a trio of Spring tags...perfect for Easter, Birthday, or Mother's Day gifts!

   

I stamped the large flower from I Am the Way (Our Daily Bread Designs) on to watercolor paper, water-colored using re-inkers, and mounted onto a "tag" that I made with my Curvy Rectangle Nestabilities.  The patterned paper is some glittery paper by My Mind's Eye - Laundry Line (I tired so hard for it to show up...but I'm not that good of a photographer), and the butterfly is a jeweled brad by Creative Imaginations.

This next card uses the same I Am the Way set, but this time I made an Easter card!

 

I used some Memory Box Provence patterned paper, and pulled the soft lavender and cocoa colors from it.  After coloring the flower with Copics, I added another flower (also colored with Copics) and popped it up.  You can barely see the shimmer, but I painted the flower with Angel Wings Shimmerz.  I tell ya, I LOVE that stuff!!  I was pleasantly surprised that even though it is a thin liquid, it dries quickly and does not warp the cardstock!  You should have seen me looking around my stamp room, trying to find something else that I could try this stuff out on!!  Heehehee!  You know how I feel about shimmery/sparkly stuff!  Mmmm, mmmm!  I finished off my card, with some stitching, ribbon, and some Dew Drops.

I have been receiving some VERY fun new stamps, and I can't wait to show you what I making with them!!

Two Completely Different Cards...

Happy Wednesday!  I know it's been several days since I've last posted...but for good reason.  :-)  We've been very busy around here!  Calving time is now staring at us in the face (the first few heifers are showing signs of impeding birth), not to mention all of the "normal" busy things being a mother creates!  I have to admit though, I am SO grateful for all of the "normal" busy things...I appreciate it more now then I ever have!  I adore my children, and I couldn't imagine it any other way!  Thank you all so much for all the emails asking about Ali!  I don't know why I continue to be amazed at the kindness of people I don't know..you'd think I'd be getting used to it!  :-)  She continues to have severe headaches/nausea, but there is an "end" in sight!  The neurosurgeons have scheduled her for surgery the end of this month.  As scary as brain surgery sounds, we (and especially Ali) are looking forward to putting this all behind us!

Now...on to the cards!  :-)  This first card uses the new I Am the Way set (from Our Daily Bread Designs).  I wanted the verse to be the focal point of my card, so I stamped the smaller flower (included in the set) in a soft pink, and then stamped/embossed the verse over it.  I used the WAY fun Mojo Monday Sketch # 73, but flipped the sketch to make it work with my stamps.  :-)  Also, instead of a tab, I used a swirl (made with my Spellbinder's Doodle Parts die). 

  

This second card is, I must admit, a complete departure from my "normal style", but I LOVE how it turned out!!  I  used the lighthouse stamp (from the Keep My Lamp Burning set) and created a kind of negative image by embossing it with Ivory e.p. onto dark paper.  I paired the image with some very masculine looking patterned paper (some Dream Street papers that my very sweet friend Tosh sent me).

Dare to Reach Out...

  Happy Monday!  In between coming home from CHA and leaving again for Seattle, I quickly put together a card using Our Daily Bread Design's newly released Keep My Lamp Burning set.  What I love most about this set, is that it can be colored...or because of the fun collage influence, it can be left uncolored!  I know I say this almost every release...but I do think this is truly my favorite ODBD set!

 

When I said this was a quick card...I wasn't kidding!  :-)  I stamped the main image onto watercolor paper and added just a touch of color to it using reinkers and a wet watercolor brush.  I pulled the True Thyme and Soft Sky colors from this gorgeous Laundry Line patterned paper (from My Mind's Eye).  For embellishments, I added some ribbon, stitching, and some brads.  Our Daily Bread Designs has also released two other beautiful sets - I Am the Way and May God Hold You.

Well, as you may have guessed, we are on our way back to Seattle for some more tests/appointments for Alison.  As unsure I am of what may be before us, I do on the other hand have such a deep peace that God will see us through it!  I do want to thank you all for your prayers, emails/cards/notes of encouragement, and friendship!  My family and I have been constantly amazed at the outpouring of kindness that "strangers" have shown to us!  From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!!  ~Laurie

Love Note Gift Set...

I have to tell you...I am SO excited about this project!  It is no secret that I adore Love Notes (basically a 3" square card)...and how I love to package them and give them as gifts!  :-)  Well, a while ago, I was thinking about making another coaster book (I got the directions from Nichole Heady's blog Capture the Moment).  After jotting down my ideas about it...to be completed at a later date (I keep a small journal of ideas I want to try, sketches, or unique color combos), I got sidetracked with the other projects that I've been working on.  Well, while thumbing through my lists of "saved for later" ideas, I came back across the coaster book.  While thinking about how I wanted to make it, I glanced at a sticky note on my desk reminding me to make a little "Love Note" gift set for a friend and the idea struck me to combine the two! 

 

I used one of the verses from the Lift Up Our Hands set (Our Daily Bread Designs) for the front.

 

Because of the added "bulk" of the note cards/envelopes inside, I decided not to add the coasters.  Instead, I used two pieces of Papertrey's Dark Chocolate c.s. (it's a heavy c.s.) as the base.

 

After covering the outside and inside with some Cosmo Cricket patterned paper, I made some pockets to hold the note cards (there are five of them in there).

 

I have no idea why the Dark Chocolate satin ribbon looks so grayish in my photos...but I promise in real life it's sooooo pretty!

 

All of the Love Note cards are simple, with limited embellishments (I wanted them to lay flat in the pocket).

 

Here, I used a sentiment from the Lift Up Our Hands set.

 

I used one of the verses and main focal image from the He Is Risen for this card.

 

 

After I stamped the John 3:16 verse (from He Is Risen), I lightly stamped the flower stamp from the Sing to the Lord set (using a shade of ink just barely darker than the paper).

 

I won't include the recipe as the suppliesare all pretty self-explanatory...and I didn't want to add any more to this already long post!  LOL!  I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!  ~Laurie

A New Sketch Challenge...

Happy Monday!  There is a new challenge in town!  :-)  Our Daily Bread Designs is hosting a sketch challenge (with prizes)!  Three participants will win a Shimmerz bottle of their choice! 

To enter, just create a card/project using ODBD stamps as the focal image with the sketch below before Midnight EST on January 23rd. Then, link your project toTHIS ODBD blog post (if you are uploading to SCS please use keywords ODBDSC01 and ODBD).  Remember, you can turn/flip, make larger/smaller anything on the sketch...just make it work for you!  ( I do this all the time {{insert sheepish grin}}!)  In fact...I made the square panel behind the diamond (the layers are the same color so that YOU can choose which shape you would like on top) larger...and just decided that my card would be square!  :-)

   

I stamped the cross (from the newly released He Is Risen) set onto Shimmery White c.s. using Rich Brown Memento ink and slightly colored it in with my Copics.  I then cut it out, added some lavender flowers, and mounted it onto a layered diamond panel (I just used my square Nestabilities to create the diamond).  I sponged some white directly onto the Kraft c.s. behind the cross so that it would "pop" a little more.  I created a tag (using my Spellbinder's tag dies) with the sentiment Alleluia (from the same He Is Risen set).

 

In this close up picture, you can see the shine from the Crystal Effects that I added.

            

The He Is Risen set comes with so many wonderful verses...and because I didn't have room on the front of the card, I decided to decorate the inside as well.  :-)  The flower is one that I just cut out from the patterned paper (the paper is from K & Co.'s recycled lavender pad).

Lift up Our Hands...

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you all are having a great year do far!  :-)  Today, I have a different kind of card to share with you.  I would not classify myself as a "technique" stamper...and normally I stay far away from them (for fear of messing it up :-).  But, when I saw this new image from Our Daily Bread Designs, I knew I had to try the Cracked Glass technique with it! 

I started by applying ink (using pigment ink Dew Drops) directly on the back of the stamp (from the new Lift up our Hands set), stamped it on some heavyweight Vanilla c.s., and then heat set my image.  After the ink was dry, I applied Versamark ink all over the image and then sprinkled Glassy Glaze e.p. over it and proceeded to emboss it with my heat tool.  While the image was still hot, I quickly sprinkled on more Glassy Glaze and repeated the process 4 or 5 times until I had a nice and thick coating.  There are a couple of ways to accomplish the "cracking".  You can put your embossed image into the freezer for a while, then tak it out and carefully "bend" it in several directions (this way produces larger cracks) or you can let the image sit for a while (like half an hour or so) and then "bend" it like previously mentioned.  I chose the second way this time, because it produces smaller "cracks" and I thought that would suit my image better.  After I was happy with that process, I then rubbed some Antique Linen Distress ink into the cracks (this helps them show up better)

Well, I am on my way out the door (Ali has a Dr. appt), but I will be back in a couple of days with some brand new stuff!!  :-)  Hugs, Laurie

P.S.  A lot of you have been asking about Ali and how she is doing...thank you so much for caring!!  :-)  She is hanging in there...she still has quite a few headaches and is sick to her stomach a lot, but she is in good spirits!  I still plan on uploading all of the BEAUTIFUL cards that were sent to us!  Now that the kids are back to school, things should settle down so I can do that.  :-)
