Simple to Spectacular - Baker's Dozen

Good morning!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!

Today I'm playing along with the Simple to Spectacular feature over at the Papertrey Ink blog.  The stamp set we are featuring this month is the Baker's Dozen. 

In case you are new to the Simple to Spectacular feature, the participating designers create three cards ranging from simple and easy to detailed and stepped up.

For my first card, I kept the layers and embellishments to a minimum.  I started with a piece of Bitty Big: Pink Posey patterned paper and layered on a Raspberry Fizz oval (from the Pierced Feature Frame: Oval die set).

For my intermediate card, I switched out the regular oval layer for the more detailed one from the Shape Shifters: Oval 3 die set.  This more detailed die cut gives the illusion of added layers without adding all of the bulk.  I also added some sequins, a flower from the Stitching Garden stamp set, and a popped up sentiment banner.  I love how the Baker's Dozen die set included the banner making it easy to either add dimension or even a different color.

I will totally admit that the detailed cards are my favorite to create!  I love all of the layers and embellishments!  For this stepped up version I added more Stitching Garden flowers and a wooden heart.  It's amazing to me that just those two changes can give the overall card a completely different look!

In this photo it's easier to see the different elements that I popped up using dimensional foam.  Oh how these pinks and reds make my heart so happy!  It never fails, after Christmas is over I am ALL about Valentine's Day!  Ha!  And I just have to mention how absolutely gorgeous the frame from Baker's Dozen is!!  LOVE!

Design Team Tips - Hot Cocoa Holder

Happy Friday!!  It's my turn to post for Papertrey Ink's Design Team Tips.  Today I'm sharing a super quick and easy project that is perfect for last minute gift giving!  :-)

 

I was in need of a few last minute gifties, so I put together this little hot cocoa holder.  I designed it as just a pocket, but it could easily be turned into a card by adhering it to a card front.  It would also make a great tag or gift adornment...just add ribbon or string!

 

After creating the pocket (detailed instructions below), I decorated the front by adding some Bitty Big: Limeade Ice patterned paper.  The focal image and sentiments are from the Merry Mug stamp set.  The great thing about this is that it only took minutes to put this whole thing together!  It would be just as easy to mass produce these since there aren't that many elements involved.  To cut down on time, it would be helpful to use a MISTI...especially if you are mass producing these.

 

Underneath the packet of hot cocoa, I stamped the plaid strip from the Sending Joy stamp set and added another sentiment from the Merry Mug set.

 

For embellishment, I tucked in a couple of die cut snowflakes (from Silver White Winters die set) and added some string to the mug.

I sized this pocket to fit the gourmet hot cocoa packets from World Market.  It would be super easy to adjust the measurements to fit other brands if needed.  :-)

To create the pocket, I started with a 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" piece of cardstock.  I scored the cardstock as pictured above (in gray ink).  I used one of the dies from the To the Point Edgers die set to cut out part of the part of the front.

  Add adhesive to all of the 1/2" flaps and fold together.  Make sure to use strong adhesive!  I like Scor-Pal tape as it is double sided and easy to apply.

These pockets aren't just limited to Christmas...the would be great as small winter themed gifts as well!  If you end up creating one, leave me a link below in the comments as I would love to check it out!  :-)

Your Beautiful Birthday

Tonight is the night!  It's Papertrey Ink December release day!  All of the products that have been shared over the last several days will be available tonight at 10 pm ET!

I absolutely LOVE the whimsical look of this set!  All of the cake elements are separate so you can customize the cake colors and size!  

I guess I had New Year's on the brain while creating this card.  :-)  I chose classic and understated colors that would work for feminine or masculine cards.  I was also thinking that this cake would make an amazing wedding or anniversary card as well!  So many options!  :-)

Papertrey Ink December Release - Day 5

Good morning!  Today is the last day of the Papertrey Ink December release sneak peek posts!  All of the new products we have shared will be available for purchase tomorrow, December 15th at 10 pm ET.

Today we are sharing projects created with Bear Hugs stamp set, Shape Shifters: Oval 4 die set, and You Make My Heart Soar stamp set.

My first car today features the new Bear Hugs stamp set and Shape Shifters: Oval 4 die set.  Gah!  Betsy has done it again!  Isn't this bear the cutest?!!?!  And I just can't with that little baby bear...SO sweet!  

For the center layer, I die cut the inner part of the new Shape Shifters: Oval 4 die and layered an oval frame on top (die cut with the Pierced Feature Frames: Oval die set).  Both sentiments are from the Bear Hugs stamp set.

I love that Betsy included both the bear outline and solid images, giving you the choice if you want to stamp or color in the bear.  I also really appreciate how versatile this set is with all of the included extras!

 

 

My second card features the new You Make My Heart Soar stamp set.  What could be more perfect than heart balloons?  I adore balloons...but heart balloons?  Yeah, I  pretty much am in love!

I framed the balloons using the new Bold Borders: Love die set.  I die cut it out using Lemon Tart cardstock and then sponged on Bright Buttercup and Summer Sunrise inks to create an ombre effect.

To make the balloons and sentiment stand out a bit more, I added some Aqua Mist ink sponging.  For embellishment, I sprinkled on some silver jewels.

Papertrey Ink November Release - Day 4

Welcome back to the fourth day of the Papertrey Ink December release countdown posts!  Over the next several days we will be sharing with you so many lovely new products perfect for celebrations, parties, and so much more!

Today we are featuring XO Skinny Mini stamp set, Corner Adorner: December stamp set, Bold Borders: Love die set, Glorious Globes: December stamp set, and Skinny Mini die set.  All of the new products being showcased today will be available December 15th at 10 pm ET.

My first card features the new XO Skinny Mini stamp set along with the Skinny Mini die set.  I die cut two of the tags from the Skinny Mini die set and embossed the images and sentiment on them. 

 

For the background, I pink sponged some Hibiscus Burst ink on and then splattered with ink.  I embellished with some stamped and die cut flowers (from the Mini Blooms set).

 

 

 

For my second card, I chose a modern design.  I combined the XO Skinny Mini stamp set, Skinny Mini stamp set, along with the  Corner Adorner: December stamp set.

 

I embossed one of the sentiments onto one of the Skinny Mini tags.  For embellishments, I sprinkled on some sequins.

 

 

 

 

For my third and final card, I used the Corner Adorner: December stamp set.

I created a rainbow like look, stamping the image from the Corner Adorner: December four times.  I embellished with some clear hearts, string, and a wooden heart.
